CHILE AND BOLIVIA RELATIONSHIP IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE BOLIVIAN GOVERNMENT’S ANNOUNCEMENT OF A CLAIM AGAINST CHILE BEFORE AN INTERNATIONAL COURT

Main Article Content

Abstract

This article analyses the bilateral relations between Chile and Bolivia in 2011, based on five important variables that affected their relations, namely, the irreconcilable clash of two foreign policies based on opposing principles, the notions of “mistrust” and “victimization” as the axis that shape Bolivia’s foreign policy, the disruptive role of the Peruvian diplomacy, the differing interpretations on the part of Palacio Quemado and La Moneda regarding compliance with the 1904 Treaty, and the strategic relation that Bolivia maintains with influential international powers in Latin America.
