Abstract

The object of this paper, pretends to focus on the deployment of peace forces under the umbrella of the new Regional Organizations by analyzing as an study case of UNASUR (Union of South American Nations).

In this sense, the problem is focused on determining the feasibility –both legal and practical– that UNASUR, as new Regional Organization, could deploy in the future, peacekeepers –in accordance with the current legislation– to emerging scenarios. For the author, a correct consolidation of this new Regional Organization, United Nations may allow, in the future, the use of the rules of Chapter VIII (Regional Arrangements), to order the deployment and intervention of UNASUR- Peace Forces in some strategic scenarios, more or less in the same way as it has been done with other Regional Organizations, including NATO and the OAS.
